Introduction
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Sudoku Universe mobile application ("the App"), developed and maintained by the Sudoku Universe development team ("we", "us", or "our"). By accessing or using the App, you confirm that you are at least 13 years of age, or that you have obtained parental or guardian consent if younger, and that you accept these Terms in full.
We reserve the right to amend these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated through an in-app notice or an update to the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the App after any such change constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
About the App
Sudoku Universe is a free, ad-free Sudoku puzzle game for Android. The App is provided at no cost, and no payment is required to access any of its features. Optional donations are accepted purely as a gesture of support and do not grant any additional entitlements within the App.
Eligibility
The App is available to users worldwide subject to your local laws. If use of the App is prohibited in your jurisdiction, you must not use it. We make no representation that the App is appropriate or available in all locations.
User Conduct
The App is designed for personal, non-commercial, recreational use. You agree to use the App only in a manner consistent with these Terms and all applicable local, national, and international laws and regulations.
You agree not to:
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any portion of the App.
- Modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works based on the App without our express written permission.
- Use any automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to interact with the App.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of our systems or servers.
- Use the App for any unlawful, fraudulent, or malicious purpose.
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security-related features of the App.
- Misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any person or organisation.
User-Generated Content
The App currently does not support user-generated content submitted to our servers. Any content you create within the App (such as notes or game records) is stored locally on your device. You retain full ownership of such locally stored content.
Violations
We reserve the right to take any action we deem necessary in response to a violation of these Terms, including terminating your access to future versions of the App.
Intellectual Property
The App, including but not limited to its design, code, graphics, user interface, puzzle generation algorithms, theme palettes, and all related documentation, is the exclusive property of Sudoku Universe and its licensors. All rights are reserved unless expressly stated otherwise.
Licence Grant
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on Android devices that you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial purposes.
Restrictions
This licence does not include the right to sublicense, sell, resell, transfer, assign, or otherwise exploit the App or any part of it for commercial purposes. Any use of the App not expressly permitted by these Terms is a breach of these Terms and may violate copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws.
Trademarks
"Sudoku Universe" and any associated logos or marks are the property of the Sudoku Universe development team. You may not use any of our trademarks or trade dress without our prior written permission.
Open-Source Components
The App may incorporate open-source software components. Where applicable, those components are used under their respective licences, which do not affect your rights and obligations under these Terms with respect to the App as a whole.
Limitation of Liability
The App is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
No Warranty
We do not warrant that: (a) the App will function uninterrupted or error-free; (b) any errors or defects will be corrected; (c) the App is free of viruses or other harmful components; or (d) the results obtained from using the App will be accurate or reliable.
Limitation of Damages
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Sudoku Universe, its developers, affiliates, or contributors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including but not limited to loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses — arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the App, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Data Loss
Game progress, statistics, and achievements are stored locally on your device. We are not responsible for any loss of data resulting from device failure, uninstallation, factory resets, or other causes outside our control. We recommend using Android's built-in backup mechanisms to protect your data.
Third-Party Links & Services
The App may contain links to third-party websites or services (such as donation platforms). We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any third-party site you visit.
Donations & Payments
Sudoku Universe is free to download and use. We accept voluntary donations purely as a way for users to support continued development. Donations are never required and confer no additional features, content, removal of limits, or other entitlements within the App.
How Donations Are Processed
Donations are handled entirely by third-party platforms — such as Buy Me a Coffee, Ko-fi, PayPal, and GitHub Sponsors. When you donate, you transact directly with that platform under its own terms and privacy policy. We never receive, see, or store your payment-card details.
No Refunds
Because donations are voluntary gifts rather than purchases of goods or services, they are generally non-refundable. If you believe a donation was made in error, please contact the platform you used, and feel free to reach out to us — we will assist where we reasonably can.
No Commercial Relationship
Making a donation does not create any partnership, employment, agency, or other commercial relationship between you and Sudoku Universe, and does not entitle you to direct or influence the development roadmap.
Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the primary developer is based, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.
Dispute Resolution
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the use of the App shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails within 30 days, the dispute shall be submitted to mediation before any formal legal proceedings are commenced.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful, void, or for any reason unenforceable, then that provision shall be deemed severable from these Terms and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions.
Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Sudoku Universe regarding the App and supersede all prior understandings, representations, or agreements.
